1This issue of the BMS includes two research articles (one each in English and in French) and two "Ongoing Research" reports (also one in each language). The first research article, "Tension, Adventure, and Risk (TAR) and the Classification of Occupations: A Multidimensional Analysis", by Erik H. Cohen, Elchanan I. Meir, Hila Segal and Reuven Amar, using smallest space analysis, shows that TAR tends to form a separate dimension or differentiation within usual classifications of occupations.
2The second research article, "The Half Median Salary, A Toy for Defining Poverty?", by Jean-François Gazeau, examines this commonly-used poverty line definition to show, through computer simulations, that the salary structure of a population and the flows into and out of poverty have a major influence on the level of poverty and its meaning. Other, and perhaps better, statistical indicators are also examined.
3The first "Ongoing Research" report, "Questionnaire Development, Evaluation, and Testing Methods (QDET) Conference: Good Discussions, Debates, and Dining in Charleston", by Jennifer M. Rothgeb, describes this conference, presents the complete program and the invited paper abstracts.
4The second "Ongoing Research" report, "Cross-Tabulations and Mosaic Diagrams for Visualizing Marginal and Conditional Probabilities", by Monique Le Guen, compares mosaic diagrams with more commonly-used bar diagrams (histograms) and spine plots for presenting statistical information associated with cross-tabulations.
